Gene_expression_in_Plasmodium_chabaudi_gametocytes

We have generated transgenic Plasmodium chabaudi parasites carrying male and female sexual stage-specific bioluminescent- and fluorescent-protein tags (promotors for Dynein heavy chain gene, and LCCL domain-containing protein CCp2 for male and female respectively), thus allowing us to distinguish between asexual and sexual stages. Using the fluorescent tags, we were able to isolate male and female gametocytes using FACS sorting, and to analyse their transcriptional profiles by RNA sequencing.
