Index of Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Digital Economy in China (IRIEDEC)

Digital economy’s development affects the level of national development, and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship of digital economy is crucial for the high-quality growth of China’s economy. Utilizing a novel big data at the firm level, collected by the Center for Enterprise Research of Peking University, and focusing on three key factors in the digital economy as entrepreneurs, capital, and technology, we innovatively construct the Index of Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Digital Economy in China (IRIEDEC) from six dimensions, i.e. business entry, outside investment, venture capital, patent, trademark, and copyright. The IRIEDEC index is invented from a mindset of big data analysis, which is based on enterprises as micro subjects in the digital economy and focuses on innovative output instead of input, with characteristics of objectivity, timeliness and multi-dimensionality.
