Lurg Hills - Biodiversity and Threatened Species Rescue - People Power in Action

This project will increase biodiversity by protecting and restoring remnant White Box, Grey Box, Yellow Box,and Ironbark Woodlands in the Lurg Hills region by linking habitat fragments, enabling genetic interchange for many plants and animals that are severely depleted. Landholders will enter into 10 year management agreements. Activities will include fencing; seed collection and propagation (including 12 rare species); weed and pest control; revegetation; ecological thinning; engagement of volunteers and school students to assist on-ground works; monitoring of rare birds and nestboxes for Squirrel Gliders and Phascogales; a variety of community engagement/capacity building events; and awareness raising through newspaper, radio and TV.
