The rumen contains a diverse microbiome which provides energy and nutrients to the animal via the bioconversion of ingested feed. Adopting novel feeding strategies to reduce methane and/or improve efficiency may have unintended side-effects on this microbiome. This study used 16S rRNA sequencing to study the rumen bacterial and archaeal response to sugarcane extract supplementation.
