We assessed the effect of chronic stress on cellular senescence, and were able to differentiate the senescence signature of physical vs social stress, both in the periphery as well as in the CNS in mice. Our findings indicate that social stress induces an organ-specific and p16Ink4a-dependent accumulation senescent cells, illuminating a fundamental way by which the social environment can contribute to aging.
