资源简介:
This experiment was conducted at the Danby Woodlot at York University on September 23, 2015 between the times of 4:00 to 5:30 pm EST. The weather consisted of clear skies and sunshine with an approximate temperature of 21 C. The objective of this experiment was to compare adult trees and the closest tree measured along a 25 m transect line placed randomly from the edge of the Danby Woodlot to the centre of the woodlot. The observations collected included measurements of the distance between the adult tree encountered on the transect line to the closest tree, the diameter of both trees at breast height (Same experimenter was used to measure the diameter to reduce accuracy and precision errors) and each tree’s condition using a scale between 0-2 where 0 is dead, 1 is living and 2 is huge green canopy. Each tree’s condition was determined visually and was also based on the reference of the sample tree identified by the TA. Upon confronting an adult tree along the transect line, the distance was measured in inches using a transect measuring tape from the edge of adult tree to the first encounter of the closest tree on the transect tape. The diameter at breast height was determined using a transect measuring tape, measured in inches, from one edge of the tree to another using the breast height of the experimenter (at overall height of 5’6”) as the centre of the tree. The sample size was 20. The group members included Bavatharane, Azeb, Eman and Saraswatie.
