Data supporting "Changing Climate, Changing Fire: Understanding Ecosystem-Specific Fire-Climate Dynamics in Arizona and New Mexico"

This dataset is derived from the Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS, https://www.mtbs.gov/direct-download) and PRISM monthly gridded climate data (https://prism.oregonstate.edu/). Data were extracted for Arizona and New Mexico for the period of 1984-2021. 

Dataset represents spatial mean of seasonal, 3-month climate statistics within the perimeter of each MTBS fire. Columns descriptions include:

dates: fire date of season

month: first month of season

eco1: fire code

seas: season code

seq: seasonal antecedent sequence

seasSeq: sequence code

fireSeas: fire season designation

fireSize: fire size in acres

fireName: name of fire in MTBS

fireYear: year of fire 

ecoName: ecoregion name

groupVeg: biophysical setting name

prec: seasonal total precipitation

vpdmax: seasonal average vapor pressure deficit

spi3: 3-month Standardized Precipitation Index

vpdmaxZ: standardized seasonal average vapor pressure deficit
