Bamboo charcoal has a wide variety of applications, for example, humidity control, deoderization, fresh-keeping, water purification, soil improvement etc. Bamboo charcoal offers not only a good living environment to us, but also a raw material to industries for developing new products. In order to solve the downcast prosperity problem of bamboo processing industries, investigation of the local industries on the products of bamboo charcoals and its manufacturing of high quality bamboo charcoals by local bamboo species are essential. The purpose of this research is to ivestigate the manufacture and utilization of bamboo charcoal. In this study, the domestic bamboos will be cut to 100 cm in length for charcoal making in earthen kiln. The kiln will be built in 2.8 m wide and 2.8 m long and 1.4 m high with an arch-type ceiling. The carbonization temperatures on a line of height of 10 cm and 90 cm above kiln floor at the central part and rear part will be respectively measured by K-type thermocouple. In order to investigate the properties of bamboo charcoal affected by the carbonnization temperature distribution in the earthen kiln, true density, specific surface area and electric resistivity tests will be performed for bamboo charcoal specimens sampled from the different location in the kiln.
