She looks directly at the camera with her flat, broad nose and smooth, middle-age features. Her eyebrows are somewhat thick, and she wears a white lace "veil" over the top of her dark, pulled-back hair. The remainders of the lace drape down to either side of her neck. She wears button earrings and a matching brooch. The signature at the bottom of the portrait reads "W.S. Sutton S2". Photoprint reads: "where home was used by Commandore Stockton when the Americans occupied Los Angeles".
