DNA from diarrheal patient's feces was subjected to high-throughput DNA sequencing. Significant number of reads showed best hits for the Campylobacter jejuni sequences, demonstrating the presence of this pathogen. This study is the first to report the direct detection of a bacterial pathogen from human specimens by using high-throughput sequencing. 454 sequence data is available from the Short Read Archive (SRA): SRA001127.
