The article analyzes the main moments in the history of the editions of the Herculaneum papyri, focusing on the ecdotic systems adopted from time to time. It highlights a significant discrepancy in the use of modern diacritics in the latest Herculaneum editions, such as to confuse the reader, and proposes to establish an organic, uniform and shared system of these signs, which can make the texts of the Villa dei Papiri fully readable.
