Photo-ID images of Antarctic killer whales in McMurdo Sound

We collected photo-identification images of killer whale (Antarctic Type C) and Antarctic minke (Balaenoptera bonaerensis) from a helicopter and from the sea ice. The objective of the work was to (a) to expand our existing photo-ID database (since 2013); (b) create a photo-ID catalogue of whales using McMurdo Sound during the summer months; (c) relate acoustics to visual records collected simultaneously; and (d) on the basis of the catalogue, determine site fidelity, movements, population structure and . This research supports specific objective (vii) for the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area, as articulated in CCAMLR Conservation Measure 91-05 Annex B
