Dataset containing the data underlying the publication titled "Improving Decision Quality in High-Tech System Design: An In-Depth Study Leveraging Industry Expertise". It consists of three parts:A file containing all data from a survey among 93 systems engineers from a high-tech company from the semiconductor industryA file containing all data from case studies at the same companySeveral figures resulting from analysing the survey data based on the systems engineers' backgrounds (position in the company and work experience)<br>The purpose of the data collection was to gain insights into decision quality in systems engineering practice at a high-tech company that develops increasingly complex systems. <br>Parts 1 and 2 were used together in triangulation; combining multiple sources of data for stronger results. The survey asked industry experts for their insights on their decision-making processes and on decision-making in general. All participants replied to a general request for filling in the survey that was distributed among the whole systems engineering department of the company. No further selection was done. The case studies contain twelve cases of decisions (with both good and bad outcomes) within a development project that is representative for the company. Each case is a description of the decision, its outcomes, and the factors influencing the link between decision and outcomes. Cases were studied by the researcher in consultation with several systems engineering experts from the company. A detailed description of the methods used can be found in the publication.<br>Part 3 is supplementary to the analysis described in the publication in which only the notable results were treated. It treats differences in focus on decision quality based on the systems engineers' position in the company and their work experience.<br>All data was collected under the approval of the Ethics Committee of the faculty of Engineering Technology of the University of Twente under application numbers 230432 and 240305. These were approved on 03-07-2023 and 11-04-2024 respectively. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects involved in the study.
