drosophila_neurotransmitters: A curated database of neurotransmitter usage by Drosophila cell types

Community-curated, version-controlled ground-truth dataset linking neuronal cell types in Drosophila melanogaster connectomes (FAFB-FlyWire, hemibrain, FANC, MANC, optic-lobe, maleCNS, BANC, L1) to evidence for their use of fast-acting small-molecule neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, glutamate, GABA, glycine, dopamine, serotonin, octopamine, tyramine, histamine, nitric oxide). Each row of `gt_data.csv` records one (cell_type, study) pair with positive (1), negative (-1), or absent (0) evidence per transmitter plus a confidence score (0-5) capturing methodological strength. Used as training data for synapse-level neurotransmitter classifiers including synister (Eckstein, Bates et al., 2024) and as ground truth for the BANC connectome paper (Bates, Phelps, Kim, Yang et al., 2026, Nature, open access; doi: 10.1038/s41586-026-10735-w; preprint v3: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.07.31.667571v3).
