Detection of the high-risk clone ST131 of Escherichia coli carrying the colistin resistance gene mcr-1 and producing acute peritonitis

Transferable colistin resistance is a major breach in our last line of defense. Multi-resistance has been previously linked to the spread of a few specific clones such as E. coli ST131. The mcr-1 acquisition by these specific clones could generate, in both E. coli and K. pneumoniae, an increased risk which should be properly monitored and controlled.
