Civilians parade after joining up after war declared

Photograph printed in Gloucester, and sent as a postcard 13 October 1914, almost all of rear of postcard obscured by glue etc. from an album.

Charles W. Carr's son Tony Carr and daughter Gill Porter remember that Charles "worked for the family firm 'The Famous' gents outfitters/department store, apprenticed when war broke out. (He was born in Gilwern, South Wales, 23 June 1892, and went to school in Hereford - Clyde House School)." Somewhere in the photograph is Charles Carr, who according to his son (Tony Carr) "with his friends linked arms and marched together down the street to join-up on the day war was declared". "A lot of Dad's friends were killed on the same day that he was wounded" - when the 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment attacked Pond Farm during the battle of Paschendale, August 1917.
