This deposit contains the processed dataset, figure data tables, codebooks and supporting files for the article “Seeing the Self through Museum Metadata: Visual Research, Self-Portraiture and Media Change, 1900–2000.” The dataset contains a strict corpus of 763 catalogue-visible self-portrait records dated 1900–2000, assembled from open collection metadata from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tate and the Museum of Modern Art. The files support three visualisations: decadal visibility, Expressionist/New Objectivity thematic coding and late-century medium classification. The deposit also includes audit files documenting the Met date-filtering procedure and metadata classification rules.
