Structural confirmation of an iodine(V)
analogue of Weiss’s
reagent, [ArI-O(Pyr)2]2+, is reported using
monodentate pyridine ligands and a nitro-substituted arene to provide
protection from electrophilic aromatic substitution. The new complex
is found to act as a source of electrophilic oxygen.
