Study of Microcystis aeruginosa phycosphere bacteria in field and lab experiments

This study aims to show and understand the composition of the associated microbiome of the cyanobacterium Microcystis and identify some underlying driving factors that shape community composition, especially the toxin microcystin. Therfore, we include the analysis of 16S-rRNA sequencing of single Microcystis colonies from field samples. Furthermore, we analyzed the community development of a synthetically assembled consortium in co-culture with Microcystis lab strains. Finally, we performed whole genome sequencing of three selected microbiome community members to get furhter insights on potential metabolic pathways that are linked with specific interactions.
