Whole genome sequencing of Brucella sp. isolated from human and animals in Greece

44 isolates from brucellosis cases identified in Greece between 1999 and 2009 were isolated and identified as Brucella melitensis and B. abortus. The isolates, which originated from human and small ruminants (sheep, goats), were sequenced on a MiSeq device. In silico genotyping showed that the B. melitensis isolates belonged to the East Mediterranean genotype. The B. abortus isolate was identified as vaccine strain RB51.
