Anonymised Transaction and Usage Dataset of Regional Currency Systems (NGI Local for Local)

This dataset contains anonymised transactional and operational data collected from regional and complementary currency systems participating in the NGI Local for Local project. The data has been provided by Currency Ecosystem Members as part of a research support programme aimed at strengthening local economic systems and improving the design and performance of community-based currencies. The dataset includes aggregated and anonymised information on user activity, transaction patterns, and system usage. Key variables comprise the number of active users, sectoral distribution of participating merchants, geographic coverage, transaction frequency, and velocity metrics on a monthly basis. All data has been processed to ensure full compliance with data protection regulations and contains no personally identifiable information. The purpose of this dataset is to support research on governance models, user adoption strategies, and economic performance of regional currencies. It enables comparative analysis across different local contexts and contributes to the development of evidence-based approaches for enhancing the sustainability, scalability, and socio-economic impact of local digital payment systems. Data collection was conducted within a structured programme requiring active participation of contributors in networking, and pilot activities, ensuring consistency and relevance of the dataset.
