Sediment chemical and physical properties (DP1.20194.001)

Sediment samples are collected from 2 stations at each site: at wadeable streams and non-wadeable (large river) sites are divided in half longitudinally and sediment is collected throughout each half (approx. 500 m reach per station). In lakes, there are also 2 stations, the first near the buoy (the deep center point in the basin, called ‘c0’ meaning ‘center’), and the second near the near-shore infrastructure (about 1-2 m deep, called ‘in’ meaning ‘in-shore’). Within each station, sediments are collected and homogenized from depositional zones at both stations 2 times per year during the spring and fall aquatic biological sampling bouts. Homogenized aggregate samples are subsampled and shipped to an external lab for analysis, or to the NEON Biorepository for archiving. Instrumentation:
