Cuticular waxes provide a hydrophobic protection from environmental stresses for land plants. To elucidate the molecular changes underlying maize glossy mutants reducing production of cuticular waxes, eight maize glossy mutants were subjected to transcriptomic comparisons with their respective wild-type siblings. Transcriptomic comparisons between mutants and wild types of eight glossy mutants identified 2,279 differential expression genes.
