资源简介:

The Koach Baruch Frazier Poster Collection contains one poster featuring Koach Baruch Frazier, an African American transgender male activist and musician. The poster was created by Keshet, a national organization that advocates for LGBTQ+ Jews and their families. It was part of a series called "LGBTQ Jewish Heroes? and was released to the public in January 2020. Posters in this series were intended to be displayed in Jewish community spaces to "demonstrate ... commitment to LGBTQ equality and visibility," per Keshet.

This poster celebrates Koach Baruch Frazier and features a photograph of Frazier playing his djembe drum. He is wearing a baseball cap that reads "STL," highlighting his deep connection to the city, and a hoodie with the first names of historically important African American freedom fighters (e.g., Frederick, Ida, etc.). The poster also includes a few short, first-person reflections from Frazier, as well as the Keshet logo and text in English and Hebrew.

Frazier was born in Kansas City and lived for many years in St. Louis. He was of one of the most prominent activists to emerge in the protest movement sparked by the 2014 death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. He often played his djembe, a kind of African drum, at demonstrations and marches. A convert to Judaism, Frazier was a congregant and board member at Central Reform Congregation, a politically progressive synagogue in St. Louis's Central West End. He also served on the board of the Missouri GSA Network, an organization that supports and coordinates the activities of LGBTQ and ally student groups in high schools and middle schools across the state. He left Missouri to attend rabbinical school in Pennsylvania.
