The dataset comprises data produced with WRF simulations as described in the associated paper. Simulations were performed on the RACC2 system at the University of Reading.The WRF domains are described in the paper. The analysis was conducted only over the part of the domain d03. Hence:for the 1km simulations, only the d03 output data is archived.for the 3km simulations, only the d02 output data is archived (there is no d03 in these cases)for the 9km simulations, the global (d01) output data is archived (there is no d02 or d03 in these cases)All files are in netcdf format and are easily read through standard means for this format: e.g. with xarray in pythonTwo case studies are considered in the paper, 13 August 2022 and 21 August 2022. These give rise to the directory names 13-aug and 21-aug respectively. Within the directory for each case, there are subdirectories for each of the simulations discussed in the paper. These follow the same naming convection as in the paper. Specifically names consist of a number and a letter. The number is 1, 3 or 9 and corresponds to the finest resolution grid used, being 1, 3 or 9km. The letter is E or P and indicates whether convection is explicit (E) or parameterized (P) on the finest resolution grid. An exception is for the simulation 3EE whether convection is treated explicitly on a 3km grid for domain d02 and is also explicit on the 9km grid for domain d01. See the paper for full details of the simulation setup, and in particular, see Table 1 for a summary of the domain and resolutions used in each simulation.Within the directory for a particular simulation, the filenames take a consistent form. For examplewrfout_d03_2022-08-13_14:00:00is found the directory 13-aug/1E. This indicates a WRF output file for the domain d03 that is valid on 13 August 2022 at 14:00:00 UTC.
