A Socio-Ecological Exploration of the Factors Positively Contributing to Early Career Teacher Belonging at School

This PhD explores what positively contributes to a sense of belonging for early career teachers to their school communities. Many new teachers leave the profession early, often due to stress, isolation, and lack of support. This PhD identifies the key factors that support new teachers, such as strong leadership, mentoring, respectful relationships, and feeling included in decision making. The research shows that belonging is essential for teachers’ wellbeing and long-term success. It offers practical recommendations to schools and policymakers to help create more supportive environments where early career teachers can thrive and stay.
