Vapor phase oxidation of mesitylene is the main production process of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The research progress of catalysts for the selective oxidation of mesitylene to PMDA was systematically reported. Firstly, starting from the structure and performance enhancement strategy of the catalyst, the research results of improving the yield of PMDA by regulating doping elements and optimizing synthesis methods were comprehensively summarized. Secondly, the effects of reaction mechanism, catalyst phase composition and carrier type on catalytic performance were analyzed. At the same time, the regulation of various parameters on the catalytic efficiency was discussed from the perspective of reaction conditions (such as the feed load of durene, reaction temperature and space velocity, etc.), which provided theoretical support and practical reference for the development of efficient catalysts and process optimization. It is of great significance to promote the development of PMDA related industries.
