Assisting the recovery of koala populations on the NSW North Coast

The Green Army Team will work alongside Friends of the Koala volunteers in their plant nursery to produce large number of koala preferred food trees. These trees will be available to the public who wish to expand koala habitat on their properties, and to provide a consistent supply of trees for other projects aimed at increasing habitat connectivity for koalas. The team will control weeds and plant 3500 trees on the Southern Cross University campus and private land using a variety of guards to protect plantings from browsers. The result of the effectiveness of the guards and species palatability will be recorded and the results collated and used to plan future plantings. The team will distribute trees to the community and participate in community education events and koala counts.
