# README: BERKELEY WEATHER STATION DATA FILES Generated: April 2026Producer: Berkeley EarthContents: Monthly weather station data archives for average, maximum,and minimum temperature. ## OVERVIEW This collection contains zip-compressed archives of Berkeley Earth weatherstation data files generated in April 2026. The archives are organized bytemperature variable, file format, and data-processing variant. There are 18 archives in total, reflecting every combination of: * 3 temperature variables: TAVG-Monthly, TMAX-Monthly, TMIN-Monthly* 2 file formats: Matlab, Text* 3 data variants: Single-valued, Quality Controlled, Breakpoint Corrected Each archive is zip compressed. After extracting an archive, consult theadditional README or guidance files included inside that archive for detailsspecific to the files it contains. ## TEMPERATURE VARIABLES TAVG-Monthly Monthly average temperature station dataTMAX-Monthly Monthly average of daily maximum temperature station dataTMIN-Monthly Monthly average of daily minimum temperature station data ## FILE FORMATS Text format The Text archives are intended for general users. These files are designedto be easier to inspect, parse, and use with common data-analysis tools. Users who do not already work with Berkeley Earth's internal processingcode should generally begin with the Text archives. Matlab format The Matlab archives are intended primarily for use with the Berkeley Earthsource code. These files are unlikely to be useful on their own withoutthat code and the associated processing conventions. Users who are not working directly with the Berkeley Earth source codeshould use the Text archives instead. ## DATA VARIANTS Single-valued The single-valued archives provide weather stations with one monthlyaverage per station and are the initial form of Berkeley Earth's mergeddata after deduplicating. Quality Controlled The Quality Controlled archives contain station data after Berkeley Earth'squality-control procedures have been applied. These files are intended forusers who want records that have been screened for data quality issueswhile preserving the station-record structure used by the correspondingdata product. Please note that the QC process applied by Berkeley Earth at this stage isvery lightweight and may not catch all possible errors. Additional errorhandling is conducted during our averaging process. This is the data productrecommended for most users, but may require additional QC checks dependingon the application. Breakpoint Corrected The Breakpoint Corrected archives contain station data adjusted foridentified breakpoints or discontinuities in station records. These filesare intended for users who want records corrected for detected non-climaticshifts before further analysis.
