metagenomic analysis of sediment-associated microbiota from Mar Menor coastal lagoon

Marine sediments and their associated microbial communities harbour a variety of organisms important for maintaining ecosystem structures and functions. The Mar Menor, the largest saltwater coastal lagoon in the Mediterranean, is slowly dying out due to anthropogenic pollution. This project aims to investigate how water pollution affects the diversity and function of sediment-associated microbial populations in the Mar Menor. The project includes 18 sediment samples from different zones along the Mar Menor (Murcia, Spain) collected in June 2022.
