Metabarcoding analysis of the olive (Olea europaea) microbiome

In this study, we explored the microbiome associated with both healthy and Xylella-infected olive trees in the Salento region (Italy). The resistant cultivar “Leccino” was compared to the susceptible cultivar “Cellina di Nardó”. Illumina-based metabarcoding of prokaryotic 16S rRNA genes and fungal ITS2 regions was used to characterize both the total and the endophytic microbiota in olive branches and leaves, separately.
