Weight loss is often temporary, generally followed by recurrent weight gain and a relapse of metabolic complications, the severity of which might be even more pronounced than that prior to weight loss. Preventing recurrent obesity, understanding the control of energy balance subsequent to weight loss, and reversing the predisposition to obesity are critical factors that warrant in-depth study. Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential of daisaikoto, the traditional Kampo medicine, in mouse models of recurrent obesity. Mouse models of recurrent obesity were obtained by feeding mice a high-fat diet, followed by normal chow and a second course of the high-fat diet.
