Effect of trained immunity on the microbiome in aging.

Beta-glucan is a Dectin-1 agonist that is known to induce trained immunity, a process by which exposure to infectious agents or vaccination enhances the innate immune response to subsequent infection by a wide range of pathogens. Additionally, the gut microbiome plays a critical role in health and disease. In this study, we sought to identify age-related changes to the microbiome as well as the effect of trained immunity on age-related changes. To investigate this, we employed 16s rRNA sequencing of mice in three distinct age groups. To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the effect of immune training on the microbiome in aging.
