Dataset underlying the laboratory study included in Chapter 4 of the PhD thesis "Flavobacteria across Time and Scale: Designing for Human-Microbe Engagement" by Clarice Risseeuw

This laboratory study investigates the effect of temperature fluctuations on<em> Cellulophaga lytica </em>PLY-A2, a microorganism known for its iridescent colouration. Under fluctuating temperature conditions, colonies developed concentric rings in purple, orange, and green, which were documented at both macroscopic and microscopic scales. We analysed the growth of colonies and colour homogeneity within the three distinctly coloured regions through computational image analysis. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), we further examined the relationship between the observed iridescent colour and the underlying cell-based optical structures. SEM images were analysed in ImageJ to measure bacterial cell dimensions and orientation. This dataset contains the measured colony sizes, macroscopic and microscopic images used for the colour homogeneity analysis, the SEM images, and the measurements of cell dimensions and orientations.
