Cognitive vulnerabilities in adolescents with suicidal risk

Introduction This database includes the raw data linked with the paper “Cognitive vulnerabilities in adolescents with suicidal risk ”. The study aimed to compare total IQ and the other indices from the Wechsler scales between adolescents with Suicidal Concern (SC) and with No suicidal Concern (NSC). Moreover, we aimed to explore the relationships between scores on the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and cognitive performance to identify possible correlations between cognitive functioning, vulnerabilities, and suicidal features. The dataset includes sociodemographics, C-SSRS, IQ data from WISC-IV, and WAIS-IV. Methods We enrolled 261 adolescents aged 12 to 18 (extremes included) and then divided them into two groups using the C-SSRS: SC and NSC. The patients’ IQ was assessed using the age-appropriate Wechsler scale. We administered the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV). Results (in brief) This study shows that SC individuals exhibited lower total IQ scores compared to the NSC group. Additionally, they generally performed poorly in non-verbal logical reasoning and problem-solving tasks, as well as experienced difficulties in short-term information storage and manipulation, which are crucial for attention and sequential processing. Moreover, correlations showed some interesting statistical significance between IQ indices and C-SSRS results.
