This repository contains all R scripts and supporting documentation to reproduce the analyses and figures for the study titled “Environmental and biotic controls on water use efficiencies of urban street trees”. The code facilitates three main analytical goals: (1) examining distinct intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE) between healthy street trees and unhealthy street trees, (2) analyzing spatial patterns of the iWUEs of healthy and unhealthy street trees, and (3) identifying key drivers shaping the spatial pattern of iWUE of urban street trees.The study measures stable carbon isotope ratios of 624 composite leaf samples from healthy and unhealthy street trees across 14 large cities in China and exhibits the environmental and biotic controls on water use efficiencies of urban street trees. These findings have insightful implications for urban forestry management in adaptation to future climate change.
