GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial wall and a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Numerous studies have demonstrated significant gender differences in the onset, progression, clinical presentation, and outcomes of atherosclerosis. Hormonal influences, genetic factors, metabolic characteristics, and lifestyle patterns contribute to these differences. This article examines the biological and clinical aspects of gender disparities in atherosclerosis development and progression, highlighting the importance of gender-specific preventive and therapeutic strategies
