Study on the clinical value of the simultaneous detection of pathogens from lesion and blood samples by metagenomic next-generation sequencing for critically ill patients in intensive care units

In this study, we aimed to examine the clinical performance of mNGS in ICU patients and explore the timing of blood mNGS. We retrospectively reviewed 319 ICU patients with severe infections who were hospitalized in Shenzhen Second People Hospital from May 2020 to June 2021. We investigated the clinical performance of mNGS and pathogens on lesion samples compared with conventional culture tests, explored the pathogen agreement rate between lesion samples and blood samples, and compared the timing for blood mNGS.
