Annual HIV/AIDS Mortality in Brazil (1980–2024)

This dataset contains annual HIV/AIDS mortality data for Brazil from 1980 to 2024, compiled from the Brazilian Mortality Information System (Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade – SIM), available through DATASUS. Annual population estimates from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) are also included. HIV/AIDS deaths registered between 1980 and 1995 were identified using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9), code 279.1 (deficiency of cell-mediated immunity). From 1996 onwards, deaths were identified using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), codes B20–B24 (HIV disease). The repository contains two CSV files: one containing annual HIV/AIDS mortality counts and another containing annual population estimates. No individual-level information is included.
