资源简介:
Site CA-MNT -307 is located in Monterey County, California. Archaeological
investigations at this large site complex included the excavation of Locus 2 and Hole in the Wall
Cave. Both of these areas have been associated with several artifacts, including a stemmed
biface, lithic flakes, shell beads, and non-human bones at Locus 2, as well as shell, bone,
flaked stone, fire-affected rock, charred seeds, and mortars at the cave. The site and its
cultural resources are located within the Salinan ethnographic territory. Calibrated radiocarbon
dates from shell at the site suggest two occupations; an older component dating to
approximately 450 A.D., and a later, protohistoric component with dates ranging from about
1450 to 1650 A.D. Pollen, phytolith, and macrofloral samples were examined from an
excavation unit at Locus 2 and from inside Hole in the Wall Cave. Pollen, phytolith and
macrofloral analyses are used to provide information concerning plant resources available to
the various occupants of CA-MNT-307.
