Canonical WNT pathway is activated in the airway epithelium in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

We report that the canonical WNT pathway is upregulated in the proximal epithelium of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Our data were obtained by using redifferentiated airway epithelium in air/liquid interface, and sequencing the transcriptional activity of components of the WNT signalling pathway Analysis of WNT transcriptional activity in 47 patients (9 non smoker controls, 10 smoker controls, 9 mild COPD patients, 10 moderate COPD patients and 9 severe to very severe COPD patients)
