Lake Erken SSU rRNA gene amplicon timeseries

Biochemical and biological samples have been collected since 2008 from Lake Erken in central east Sweden. This study is part of the long term monitoring of the lake, with the data deposited here being part of the microbial SSU rRNA gene amplicon sequencing effort. Only a selection of the available samples is currently sequenced and here represented. Biochem and biological samples are collected by Erken Laboratories of the Limnology Department, Uppsala University. All biochemistry and physical attributes of water samples and the lake are done by Erken Laboratories on location. All biological samples are stored and analysed at the Uppsala campus of the Limnology department. Lake Erken is a dimictic lake in cool temperate region and as such has an annual cycle which includes: periods of ice coverage during which the lake waters circulate where unfrozen, and as it becomes ice-free the lake water circulates then increasingly stratifies, followed by circulation again before ice-over. Each of the characteristic phases of the cycle are sampled at monthly intervals and during stratification the epilimnion, metalimnion, and hypolimnion are sampled separately.
