Experimental evolution of antibiotic resistant Escherichia coli. Escherichia coli str. K-12 substr. MG1655

The goal is to understand the compensatory patterns of antibiotic resistance bacteria, when evolving in the absence of the antibiotic. These patterns are dependent on the genetic background and the competitive context of the evolving strains, and it is important in order to understand the reason why resistance are maintained in clinical populations. At the same time, this data is relevant to understand the molecular epistasis between antibiotic resistant mutations, and between the resistances and their compensatory mutations.
