Characterizing the Microbiota of Recycled Bedding Sand on a Wisconsin Dairy Farm

The objective of this study was to characterize the microbiota of recycled bedding sand and grey water collected from a Wisconsin dairy farm. Samples were collected in early summer and mid-winter to determine if season influenced these microbial populations. Sand was collected from several locations of a sand recycling system and the V4 variable region of the 16S rRNA gene was sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq.
