Acute bacterial meningitis due to Neisseria meningitidis serotype B missed by a multiplexed PCR panel

In this study, we report a case of bacterial meningitis caused by type B-encapsulated N. meningitidis, which went undetected by a commonly-used commercialized PCR panel. However, by utilizing the cfDNA extracted from the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), we were able to unambiguously identify Neisseria meningitidis serotype B.
