Cinnamomum balansae, chloroplast genome

Cinnamomum balansae Lecomte, belonging to the Cinnamomum genus and Lauraceae family, is a valuable and endemic gene resource of Vietnam. The species is also categorized under Group IIA - forest plants not yet threatened with extinction but at risk if not strictly managed and if exploitation and commercial use are not restricted. Besides its precious genetic value, Cinnamomum balansae also holds high economic and medical value. However, complete chloroplast genome sequencing has not been applied to study the genomes of C. balansae. The objective of this study was to provide chloroplast genome data for the species in order to offer valuable insights into the genome organization, gene content, and structural variations of the C. balansae chloroplast genome. Moreover, the chloroplast genome provides crucial clues regarding phylogenetic relationships, contributing to genetic and evolutionary research in C. balansae and related species.
