NRS-8197 | List of Towns [Cartographic Division, Department of Lands]

A list of towns of which the Lands Department published town maps. It was also used as a type of marking-off book when office maps were sent to other parts of the Department. Few of these markings remain, as they were erased when the map was returned to the Map Section. It records changes of name, and shows when publication of a town map ceased (eg. against the town of Alma is noted "Western Land Board", meaning it is now in the Western Division and no longer published by the Lands Department; against the town of Alstonville is noted "see PH. Tuckombil Co. Rous", meaning the town map is no longer published, and the parish map is used instead). These books are now superseded by a "new edition" at present in use in the Lands Department.
