A longitudinal study was conducted in a captive colony of Eonycteris spelaea bats in order to define both known and previously unknown viruses of zoonotic relevance and to draw conclusions with regard to population persistence of viruses. High throughput sequencing of viral RNA extracted from swabs of four body sites per bat per timepoint was conducted.
