Norwegian local election survey among people with an immigrant background, 2019

The local election surveys were carried out in the autumn of 2019. The purpose of the surveys was to describe electoral participation, political orientation and attitudes to political issues in the population.

The local election surveys are a collaboration between Statistics Norway and the Institute for Social Research (ISF). For the 2019 surveys, a total of 19,000 eligible voters were drawn from the population. In the local elections, foreign nationals also have the right to vote, and a separate survey was carried out among them. The authorities responsible for integration finance a sample with an immigrant background in the survey.

The sample is a stratified sample among immigrants and Norwegian-born with two immigrant parents. Among immigrants, 2,000 with a country background from Western Europe were drawn, 3,000 from Eastern European EU countries, 3,000 among people with a country background from Africa and Asia. In addition, 1,000 eligible voters under the age of 35 who are children of people with a country background from Africa and Asia were drawn. The survey was conducted as a web survey, and has a response rate of 20%. The biggest reason for dropouts was lack of contact with respondents.
