资源简介:
This note corrects an error in Besley, Persson, and Sturm's (2010; hereafter, BPS) interpretation of regression estimates presented in their article. BPS conclude from these estimates that political competition induces political parties to adopt pro-growth policies. But when their estimates are correctly interpreted, they fail to support this conclusion. They are in some cases ambiguous, but in others suggest that increasing support for the Democratic Party translates into `anti-growth' policies irrespective of the competitiveness of elections.
